don't guess, calculate and know

  • Signal Tolerance% to Total Harmonic Distortion%

    Signal tolerance (T) is given by the formula :-
    T=((NF/F) -1) x 100 Ref. IEC 60068-2-6 Sec. 3.5
    Where T is the signal tolerance % and NF is the rms value of the unfiltered signal and F is the rms value of the filtered signal.
    But T is related to total harmonic distortion (THD) by the formula :-
    D=SQRT((T/100) + (2 x T/100)) x 100 Reference IEC 60068-2-6 Sec. A.2.2
    Where D is the THD in % and T is the signal tolerance in %

    Note : IEC 60068-2-6 Fc allows for a signal tolerance of 5% : Reference EC 60068-2-6 Sec. 4.1.3
